Absolutely stunning bronze figure depicting the Bodhisattva Manjushri, one of the most important figures in Buddhist religion, who is considered the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. The Sanskrit name of Manjushri is Prajna which means “gentle glory”. The Manjushri is seated in vajraparyankasana on a double-lotus base, with the legs crossed and the feet facing up. He holds a flaming sword in his right hand, representing the realization of transcendent wisdom which cuts down ignorance and duality, while his left hand are in the vitarkamudra, a gesture representing the discussion and transmission of the teachings by the Buddha. A stem of a blue lotus flower (utpala or padma), one of the main attribute of Bodhisattva Manjushri, rising to his left shoulder along the elbows. The lotus flower is believed to hold the Prajnaparamita Sutra (Great Wisdom Sutra ) and contains the essence of the great Wisdom of Lord Buddha.
His long dhoti which is incised with elaborate designs, is held in place with a jewelled belt. The bare chest festooned with a plain sash and beaded necklaces.
