Amazigh people, early to mid 20th century, Anti-Atlas Region, Morocco
Fascinating wooden Arabic wedding contract from Amazigh tribes of Anti-Atlas region, Morocco. As there was no paper available, these legal documents were noted on wooden panels. The contracts was legalized by the authorities with a stamp in red ink. The fantastic, aged document is meticulously inscribed on a rare Argan wood plate in Arabic with dark brown henna ink. The Amazigh (plural Imazighen, "noble and free people") any of the descendants of the pre-Arab inhabitants of North Africa. They are also known as Berbers, deriving from Greek for ‘foreigner, non-Greek speaking, "barbaric", though this term - used widely by invading forces and colonial authorities, is largely rejected by Amazigh themselves due to its negative connotations.
Good condition. Age-related wear and abrasion. Minor chips to wood. Smudging and fading to inked script. Size approx. 19,0 x 4,5cm x 1,0cm.

Returns
Returns and exchange will be accepted within fourteen days (14) of receipt at the purchaser’s cost to include freight and packaging. Items must be returned in the same condition as when they were shipped, and will not be accepted if damaged or altered in any way.
