A finely potted small-scale Cizhou-style stoneware figure depicting Shou Lao, the revered Chinese deity and personification of longevity, wisdom, and good fortune. The figure stands frontally, clad in simply rendered, sparsely decorated robes, and holds a sceptre and a pearl—traditional attributes symbolising authority, spiritual power, and immortality.
Shou Lao is characteristically portrayed with an exaggeratedly large cranium, representing accumulated wisdom, and a long flowing beard denoting advanced age. These defining features are sensitively modelled here, lending the figure both dignity and gentle character. The surface is decorated with a restrained palette of iron-brown, cream, and soft peach-toned glazes, applied in the Cizhou tradition to enhance form and expression rather than surface ornament.
Representations of Shou Lao were widely produced during the Ming and Qing dynasties, often moulded or carved in wood and stone, and intended for domestic shrines, altars, and auspicious display. This ceramic example stands out for its refined modelling, harmonious glaze tones, and evocative presence, embodying the enduring cultural ideals of longevity, prosperity, and benevolent fortune.
Excellent condition. Light surface wear consistent with age and use, with minor glazing defects and firing flaws. Size approx. 5,6cm x 2,4cm x 1,8cm.

Returns
Returns and exchange will be accepted within fourteen days (14) of receipt at the purchaser’s cost to include freight and packaging. Items must be returned in the same condition as when they were shipped, and will not be accepted if damaged or altered in any way.
