Khmer Empire, Angkor Wat or Bayon Period, c. 1100–1300 AD, Cambodia

A superb and finely potted Khmer Angkor–Bayon period honey jar. This small vessel features a graceful cylidrical body, convex sides and gently flaring mouth, all resting on a flat base. The surface is covered with a delicate light brown glaze, giving the piece a warm, earthy tone.

Such refined stoneware vessels were produced during the height of the Khmer Empire — one of the greatest civilizations in Southeast Asia — renowned for its monumental architecture and artistic excellence. The empire’s capital at Angkor, with its majestic temples such as Angkor Wat and Bayon, stands as a testament to the Khmer mastery of both form and symbolism. This jarlet, with its balanced proportions and subtle glaze, reflects the understated elegance and technical sophistication characteristic of Khmer ceramics from this golden age.

Excellent condition. Surface wear consistent with age and use. Glazing defects and firing flaws. Size approx. 6,1cm x 6,1cm x 6,1cm.
