Medieval and Post-Medieval Bronze Finger Rings

Medieval and Post-Medieval, c. 700-1600AD, Europe.

Fascinating, robust and absolutely beautiful pair of a Medieval bronze alloy finger rings, found in England. A small-sized examples, with medieval characteristics and details, and with an approx. 14mm internal hoop diameter, these rings were probably once silvered or gilded but now only bronze with a lovely greenish patina. A narrow recessed bezels probably once held a small coloured glass stones, or semi-precious gems, now long gone, but otherwise intact, and still wearable. These gorgeous rings would make a perfect unique gift or addition to any antique jewelry collection. The medieval period or Middle Ages began around 476 AD following a great loss of power throughout Europe by the Roman Emperor. The medieval period is itself subdivided into the Early, High, and Late Middle Ages, and the early medieval period is alternatively referred to as the Dark Ages. The Middle Ages span roughly 1,000 years, ending between 1400 and 1450, although alternative starting and end points exist. The period was one of human expansion, centralization and great political upheaval and violence, resulting in the foundation of many modern European countries.

Moderate to good condition, smooth shiny patina, wearable. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. Missing stones. Lovely dark patina. Dents and minimal corrosion. Size approx. 2,2cm x 1,8cm x 1,0cm and 2,1cm x 2,0cm x 0,6cm. Sell as a set.
