Roman Ivory Knife Handle with Hound and Hare Motif
The Roman Empire, c. 200-300AD.
Absolutely stunning, delicately carved zoomorphic ivory knife handle and copper alloy blade remains. The rectangular handle embellished with hound and hare design. Reverse with beautiful concentric circle and dot decorations. The hound has well-moulded limbs and a lean body. The head is elongated, the tip of the snout almost touching the hare's tail. The hare also has well-moulded limbs and a slender body which is angled downwards from front to back. Fragmented blade cast and hammered, both edges damaged.
Good condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Surface scratches and light corrosion. Beautiful patina. Size approx. 8,2cm x 1,7cm x 1,0cm and blade 8,0cm x 1,6cm x 0,1cm.

Returns
Returns and exchange will be accepted within fourteen days (14) of receipt at the purchaser’s cost to include freight and packaging. Items must be returned in the same condition as when they were shipped, and will not be accepted if damaged or altered in any way.
